Botteling parts of vintage 2019

Today, some of the 2019 wines have found their way into the bottle. Bottling is always a great moment for us. The long process of winemaking comes to an end here. Since bud break, we have nurtured the vines and later the grapes. For more than half a year we ...

A new period of vegetation begins

The vines awake from their hibernation and a new vegetation period begins. This is clearly visible in the juice that drips from the tip of the vine. This phase is also called vine bleeding. At the moment it is still very cold at night so that the grape juice frozen into icicles creates a beautiful picture. Let's hope that after bud break there will be no more frost.

Frist racking

When fermentation is complete, the yeast sink to the bottom and form a yeast depot. During the first racking the young wine is separated from this yeast depot. This is the first step after fermentation is complete. From here on, all further steps of the winemaking process have to be carried out with even more care than before. Losses of carbonic acid or aroma due to unnecessary pumping or incompletely filled tanks have to be avoided. Whenever possible, we only work...

Harvest 2019 is finished

It is done, the 2019 harvest is in the cellar. After 4 long and exhausting weeks all grapes are pressed and the must is stored in the cellar. All in all we are very satisfied with the 2019 vintage.

A big thank-you goes to the whole harvest team, who gave everything outside despite partly bad weather, as well to our hard-working helpers in the cellar and to Max Strobel for the great pictures.

Harvest 2019

The 2019 grape harvest is in full swing. Today we have good weather for once. Due to the heavy rain we had to pause the harvest again and again.

The grapes are harvested in buckets, which are then emptied into 300 litre boxes. Here the grapes are sorted again as shown in the picture and then pulled up the slope with the winch.

Annual selection tasting Moselwein e.V. 2019 Second part

After we already did very well in the first part of the annual selection tasting of Moselwein e.V., we are very happy that we even could do better in the second part. In the second part of the annual tasting of the Mosel-Weinwerbung (Mosel wine advertising), only 2018 wines in the categories Superpremium dry and Superpremium feinherb as well as fruit and noble sweet Prädikatsweine from Spätlese upwards were tasted and evaluated in the Steillagenzentrum in Bernkastel-Kues.

We would like to especially emphasize...

Many drops in the ocean

To be able to irrigate faster and more efficiently in the future, we have installed drip irrigation in two of our young plants. In case of extreme drought we can keep the vines alive and avoid long-term damage. Irrigation is only used in extreme cases so that the vines still have the ambition to develop deep roots. Let the water flow!
